Melksham SGT6 – Shunt Reactor Replacement

Beyond the vital task of Reactor 1 replacement, this project encompassed a wide array of crucial endeavors that have not only ensured the project's success but also fortified the site's infrastructure for the future. The primary focus was on adapting, upgrading, and maintaining various elements to enhance overall performance, safety, and readiness for future developments.

One of the large aspects of this project was the comprehensive modification, repair, and extension of the SGT Bund. This transformation was designed to not only accommodate the present Reactor 1 replacement but also to set the stage for future SGT replacements. By taking a forward-thinking approach, we have ensured that the site's infrastructure remains adaptable and can seamlessly integrate future upgrades, saving both time and resources in the long run.

In terms of electrical systems, this project also involved the replacement of protection and circuit breakers, as well as Voltage Transformers (VT) and Current Transformers (CT) on the outgoing circuit. These upgrades were instrumental in enhancing the system's safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Additionally, two Disconnector/Earth Switch units underwent comprehensive refurbishments. This rejuvenation of critical components served to prolong their operational lifespan and maintain the highest safety standards.

A unique achievement of this project was the development of the first on-site COVID Risk Assessment, which was spearheaded by the 1 Delivery procedure. This pioneering approach not only ensured the safety of our site teams but also paved the way for a safe return to work during the challenging pandemic era. In a spirit of collaboration, we shared a generic version of this document with all our strategic partners, contributing to the overall safety of the project and the industry.

In summary, this project demonstrates our dedication to multifaceted, forward-thinking solutions. By integrating upgrades, adaptations, and pioneering safety measures, we have not only successfully completed the Reactor 1 replacement but also fortified the site's infrastructure for future developments. Our commitment to safety and collaboration has set new industry standards and exemplified our focus on delivering high-quality projects.
